Are you a Cell Therapy Specialist with experience in GMP? This is your chance to be at the forefront of establishing a state-of-the-art development and production facility for the advancement of novel cell and gene therapies. We are looking for a Lead Scientist Cell Therapy with expertise in ex-vivo gene therapy to join our Cell Therapy Development team.

What you will do 

Just one year ago, NecstGeN was nothing more than a name.. Now are in the process of realizing 13 cleanrooms and we will be GMP certified by Q2 of 2022. In the meantime, our activities will start in a temporary development laboratory in Leiden Bio Science Park. NecstGeN will provide expert knowledge for the development, production, and commercialization of cell and gene therapies to customers at various stages of the therapy life cycle, in particular to academics and start-up companies. You, as Lead Scientist Cell Therapy, will:

  • Support the set-up of the temporary development lab;
  • Support the recruitment of a team and train future colleagues;
  • Provide hands-on work in the lab and cleanroom to produce complex Cell Therapy Products;
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert in gene-therapy in cells (hence ex-vivo gene therapy products);
  • Design pathfinding process development projects (tech-transfer from R&D to GMP) and hands-on contribution to projects during start-up phase;
  • Support the reviewing and writing of (GMP) protocols (for example SOPs).

Job requirements

What we ask

We are looking for an expert in ex-vivo gene therapy products who can act as an SME in work discussions and client meetings and works hands-on in the development lab and cleanroom. Furthermore, you have:

  • A Master’s or PhD in a relevant field;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in industry;
  • Experience with working with vectors and cells in a Good Manufacturing Process (GMP) environment, this is a must;
  • Experience with complex cell therapy products based on for example stem-cells, IPSCs, (CAR)T-cells, NK-cells or dendric cells;
  • An open minded and spirited colleague who enjoys working in an ambitious collaborative team

The Netherlands Center for the Clinical advancement of Stem Cell and Gene Therapies (NecstGeN ) primarily enables early-stage research organizations and start-ups with efficiently developing their novel cell and gene therapies. Ultimately we expect that NecstGeN will engage with organizations of all scales worldwide.

NecstGeN is a spin-out of the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), which is our only shareholder. This enables us to not just be a CDMO but a center of expertise in a unique position. We recently signed a 15-year rental agreement to realize a 4,000 m2 facility which includes 13 cleanrooms for novel cell and gene therapy production.

NecstGeN supports the translation of novel therapies and technologies to GMP production. We offer development and GMP services, including fill and finish. We bring together expertise from R&D, process development including analytical, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs, Business Development, and Manufacturing in a purpose-built GMP production facility.

As Lead Scientist Cell Therapy at NecstGeN you receive a competitive salary and an excellent pension plan. Not to mention the many opportunities and exciting dynamics of a scale-up environment. A standard fulltime position at NECSTGEN is 36 hours. A part-time position is negotiable. In addition to your salary you receive a 13th-month payment and 8% holiday allowance.
